Tips for saving Library of Congress images to use with Voice Thread

  1. Voice Thread recommends a high resolution image for the zoom feature in the application. Currently, they accept image types: JPEG,TIF, GIF, BMP, PNG, doc types: PPT, PPS, PDF, DOC, XLS and varying video formats. Since VoiceThreads can zoom in and out on images and documents for detail, we recommend your images be close to 1280x960 (which a 2mp or higher camera can produce).
  2. The Library of Congress images are not all high resolution.  You need to pick an image that is available either  in High Resolution JPEG or TIF.
  3. The Panoramic Maps and some other large documents in the LOC are compressed with JPEG2000 or MrSID. You need to read the LOC information about these technologies if you want to use them with Voice Thread. LOC actually has a wonderful pan and zoom feature with these files so another solution would be to use the images inside LOC and not with Voice Thread.  You could use a wiki or other networking tool for your discussions as we did here with our Geography activity.
